Biography

Dr. Annie Janvier is a pediatrician and neonatologist specialized in clinical ethics. She works with patients and families faced with difficult decisions, such as end-of-life decisions in a context of uncertainty.

Research Interests :

Dr Janvier is a neonatologist member of the clinical ethics unit at CHU Sainte-Justine. She is the co-director of the master’s and PhD programs and member of the bureau de l’éthique clinique (BEC) at the Université de Montréal. The majority of her research projects involve a parent/patient as co-investigator. She investigates the experience and perspectives of parents/patients in complicated situations. She has often highlighted significant contrasts between parental perspectives and those of clinicians. Dr Janvier examines how to optimize communication between clinicians and patients/families. She investigates the positive impacts that follow the integration of resource parents/patients into teams in our healthcare system, whether in clinical, educational or research settings.

Dr. Janvier is the author of numerous publications, stories and books on clinical ethics and medicine.International impact and recognition

International Impact and Recognition

Dr Janvier is a pioneer in patient involvement in research. She is an international speaker who has given over 200 presentations, often with patients. She has been invited all over the world to optimize patient engagement: Australia, New Zealand, USA, France, Belgium, UK, Argentina, USA etc. She has catalyzed a cultural shift to “family engagement”. She is sought internationally as a co-investigator in international clinical trials, where she optimizes participation/consent issues with families, and also investigates patient or parent perspectives.

She investigates decision-making for critical decisions (such as end-of-life decisions) for vulnerable patients. “Patient/parent important outcomes”. She is an international specialist on how to communicate with families in difficult times.
